Research group Turek

The group develops methods for the design of chemical and electrochemical reactors, in which porous catalysts or electrocatalysts are employed. On the micro and meso scale, optimal pore systems are developed which improve transport and distribution of gaseous and liquid reactants in order to reach the highest possible efficiency of the reacting system. In addition to an in-depth characterization of the pore systems and the measurement of the performance of catalysts and electrocatalysts, mathematical models describing the interaction of transport and reaction processes on the pore scale are required. On the macro scale, the geometry of catalysts and electrodes as well as of the chemical or electrochemical reactor are investigated to achieve high efficiencies of the external mass and heat transfer processes. In recent investigations, dynamic processes have become increasingly important with their specific challenges regarding the description of the reaction kinetics and reactor modeling.
