FLASH – Fluid-Dynamically Activated and Scalable Electrodes for Highly Efficient Hydrogen Production

The FLASH collaborative project aims to obtain performance-enhancing electrode designs for alkaline water electrolysis with gas bubble removal, improved mass transport, that are industrially manufacturable, high-throughput and economical. This objective is pursued through multiscale electrode structuring, which involves the targeted combination of macrostructures that influence fluid dynamics, mesoscale surface structures, and catalytically active coatings.

The project is carried out with the Institut für Bildsame Formgebung (IBF) at RWTH Aachen, and Institut für Produktionstechnik und Umformmaschinen (PtU) as well as Fachgebiet für Verfahrenstechnik elektrochemischer Systeme (VES) of the Technische Universität Darmstadt. This project, of research associations Gesellschaft für Chemische Technik und Biotechnologie e.V. (DECHEMA) and Europäische Forschungsvereinigung für Blechbearbeitung e.V. (EFB), is funded within the framework of the German Industrial Collective Research Programme (Industrielle Gemeinschaftsforschung, IGF) by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE).
