EES Catalysis cover feature for publication on CO2 electrolysis

The publication "Highly selective Ag foam gas diffusion electrodes for CO2 electroreduction by pulsed hydrogen bubble templation" by Hendrik Hoffmann (UBT) and Jens Osiewacz was selected for a cover feature.

The new method produces polymer-based Ag-DHBT-GDEs by electrochemical Ag catalyst deposition on a sputtered Ag-GDL. By coating an insulating polymer fabric with a conductive layer, the porous structure crucial for CO2 electrolysis was created. Pulsed dynamic hydrogen bubble templating outperformed galvanostatic deposition by producing higher mass loading and higher electrochemical surface areas, and showed better performance than DC-DHBT-GDEs at relevant current densities. In addition, infiltration with perfluorosulfonic acid-based ionomer improved CO2 transport by preventing flooding of the GDE.
