SUN2H2 – Direct Use of Solar Power for the Production of Green Hydrogen

The research project SUN2H2 focuses on the direct use of photovoltaic (PV)-generated electricity for the production of green hydrogen via electrolysis. The aim of the project is to improve the economic viability and efficiency of hydrogen systems by using solar power for hydrogen production with as few intermediate conversion steps as possible. Within the project, real operating data from photovoltaic systems are analyzed to investigate the behavior of electrolyzers under the fluctuating conditions of solar power generation.

Particular focus is placed on efficiency, operational dynamics, hydrogen quality, and possible aging and degradation processes. The results are expected to contribute to the technical and economic optimization of future power-to-hydrogen systems and to support the integration of renewable energy into the hydrogen economy.
